100% Lyocell (TENCEL®),
Lyocell - known as TENCEL® - is a fiber industrially produced from natural raw materials. It is made from eucalyptus wood from sustainable forests and is biodegradable.
How is Lyocell produced? First, small snippets of eucalyptus wood "wood chips" soaked to loosen the pulp. The pulp is obtained is mixed with the substantially non-toxic solvents of NMMO and water. The mass is then heated under vacuum and thus deprived of the water until the cellulose dissolves and forms a dope. This is filtered and forced through spinnerets into a spin bath, whereby the fibers are formed.
What makes the production of lyocell special is the nearly complete circularity of the solvent used. This can be easily washed out by its good miscibility with water from the fiber.
